WILLMAR, Minn. – MnDOT District 8 and the city of Pipestone are looking for community input on two temporary safety projects being installed on Highway 75 in Pipestone.
Demonstration projects are short term, low cost temporary roadway projects to promote and advance walking and bicycling. Projects include, but are not limited to, bicycle lanes, crosswalk markings, curb extension and median safety islands.
Bump-outs will be installed at Highway 75 and 4th St. A median refuge island will be installed on Highway 75 near 5th St. A median refuge island allows people who walk and bike the ability to cross only one lane of traffic at a time, which shortens the distance for crossing and provides a refuge.
A picture of the project area is below. Decisions on what, if any, safety projects will be permanently installed will be approved by MnDOT and the city of Pipestone.
The project will be in place for at least thirty days. MnDOT and the city of Pipestone are asking community members to take time to use the temporary projects and provide us with their feedback. Information on the project, including a short survey is available at mndot.gov/d8/projects/hwy75demonstrationproject. An informational display, along with paper surveys, are available at the Pipestone City Office at 119 2nd Ave SW in Pipestone.
