City Offices Closed to Public

March 23, 2020, Pipestone, MN - All Pipestone City Offices, with the exception of essential services and City Council meetings, are closed to the public effective at 8:00 a.m. on March 24, 2020 and until further notice. The decision was made by the Pipestone City Council which held a special meeting in the Council Chambers on March 23, 2020 to discuss appropriate prevention and protection measures in response to the expanding COVID-19 pandemic.

Utility payments can be made by mail, drop boxes or over the phone. Exceptions will be made for transactions that require an in person visit and cannot be postponed. These exceptions will require an appointment. Please call 507-825-3324 to request an appointment.

In taking these measures, the City is complying with guidance for social distancing strategies recommended by both the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Center for Disease Control (CDC).

This action will also help protect staff and the general public from being exposed to potentially ill individuals and spreading the virus to our residents, friends and families.

While the offices will be closed to the public, normal City services and operations will continue to be provided to the community on the same schedule, through both phone and email. The City will provide clean safe water and garbage pick up will continue on its regular schedule. Many services can also be done online if necessary and citizens are encouraged to explore those options. A listing of department contacts and updates on COVID-19 can be found on the City’s webpage ( or by calling the City office at 507-825-3324.

This closure order does not apply to the Pipestone Municipal Liquor Store. The liquor store will keep its regular hours until further notice. We do ask that 10 or less customers be in the store at one time and that you maintain the 6-foot social distance recommended by the CDC. We appreciate your cooperation.

Thank you,

Myron Koets, Mayor

Jeffrey R. Jones, City Administrator
