Community water systems in Minnesota, like the City of Pipestone, are working to identify and replace lead service lines throughout the state.
Each water supplier has been tasked by the MN Dept. of Health to complete an inventory of both Public and Private water lines and will be notifying property owners if they have either a lead, galvanized, or unknown service line.
Pipestone, like other water service providers, will be working to help homeowners replace their lead service lines by acquiring State grant dollars to cover the replacement cost of lead lines. Recently, the city was notified that we will be receiving a 1-Million dollar grant to spend on these efforts.
The MN Dept. of Health has stated "Residents do not need to take any action regarding lead service lines. The State of Minnesota has set a goal to replace all lead service lines by 2033."
